Apple set to release three new iPhones

Apple is rumoured to be releasing 3 new iPhones later this year, the iPhone 7S, 7S Plus and a tenth anniversary iPhone 8. While the 7S and 7S Plus will be the updated versions of the current iPhone 7, the third new iPhone will supposedly showcase the latest smartphone technology. Considering the 10th anniversary of the Apple iPhone is coming up this year, we’re not surprised that Apple has been holding back some major updates and improvements for the iPhone 8.

Design

With glass bodies becoming a huge trend in 2017 devices, it’s been suggested that the Apple iPhone 8 will have the appearance of a ‘glass sheet’, taking Apple’s premium designs to a whole new level. It’s also likely that the display will be edge-to-edge, to rival with Samsung’s new handsets. Further design changes include the removal of the traditional home button, which may be replaced with a touch-sensitive digital button.

“This year, Apple will use OLED display only in its premium handset, which will offer a high screen-to-body ratio without the iconic home button,” wrote Nikkei’s Debby Wu, citing two industry sources.

The iPhone 8 is rumoured to sport a OLED display, while the 7S and 7S Plus on the other hand are set to continue the liquid crystal displays until Autumn 2018 when they too will be upgraded. Unfortunately for Apple fans, the shift to an OLED display is only going to increase the price of the next iPhone. Using OLED (organic light emitting diode) will cost Apple twice as much as using regular LCD panels giving the iPhone 8 potential for the being the most expensive iPhone yet.

iPhone 8 features

Most awaited however are the whispers that the new iPhone will feature a “revolutionary” 3D camera system that could be used for 3D selfies and facial recognition. Further rumours include an Iris scanner as seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7, that will use eye-scanning technology to allow iPhone users to unlock their phone just by looking at it. Final rumours suggest that the iPhone 8 will be designed with a variety of wireless charging options.
