Nexus 5X Review

Design

Featuring a 5.2″ display, the Nexus 5X is visibly larger than the original Nexus 5, but is still easy to hold and use, even one-handed. Further design changes include a fingerprint sensor that is placed on the back of the device, and a USB Type-C port, as opposed to the Nexus 5’s microUSB input, offering you improved data transfer and charging speeds.

Powerful camera, 4K video

The 5X features the best ‘all-round’ camera that has been put into a Nexus, with a 12.3MP rear camera that is designed to capture more light even in the dimmest of conditions, and a 5MP front camera. But better yet, the Nexus 5X features ‘4K’ video, also known as ‘Ultra-HD’ to offer you four times the resolution of HD for crisp, high-definition footage. Finally, the Nexus 5X features ‘Google Photos’ – the new way to store, search and share your images and videos – with the ability to store a unlimited amount at high quality for free and access them anywhere. With automatic organising, you can search by people, place or things, and easily find your favourite memories.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow

The Nexus 5X features the latest and fastest version of Android – 6.0 Marshmallow. Key updates have been made to improve your battery life with features including ‘Doze’ that automatically puts your device in a sleep state when it’s resting, ensuring you’re alarm will still go off in the  morning, even when you’ve forgotten to charge your device. While ‘App Standby’ limits the impact your seldom used apps have on your battery life, avoiding unnecessary draining. Paired with USB-C Fast Charging, the Nexus 5X packs a powerful battery.

Android 1

Further updates have been made to give you more control and security, with app permission notifications allowing you to deny or allow app access to your phone’s features such as the microphone, and gives you the ability to define what you want to share and when. While security has been simplified with the use of a fingerprint sensor, placed on the back of the Nexus, for unlocking your phone, signing in, browsing the Play Store and unlocking apps.
